5Just what I needed, and I'm not even a gamer
By Timothy B. Riley
I have been a photographer for over 30 years and fully converted to digital about 10 years ago. I have always used the Windows platform for my photo editing even though every other photographer that I know seems to use a Mac. As digital files become bigger and editing programs become more powerful I tend to replace my computer every two years or so. I have a desktop computer (also a Sony) that I used to do most of my editing on, but as much as I travel it seems that I use a laptop more often, When I decided to upgrade my laptop I went to my largest customer's IT department and asked the guys opinion on what I should get. First they all said Mac (sigh). When I told them that I didn't want to learn a new system they talked about it for a while (why is it that people in IT departments never smile?) I told them what version of Photo Shop I was running, the size of my camera's files, the fact that I shoot and edit video as well, have an =external hard drive, what my budget was (under $2000), etc. Eventually, the general consensus was that I should get a gaming computer with as large of a screen as I could deal with. Now, which one? After looking for a few weeks I settled on this Sony and I am glad that I did. I chose the 16.4-inch screen only because I find the 17-inchers to be too big and hard to fit into my existing bags and cases. The quad-core Intel Core i7 processor blows through my various photographic programs like crazy. In addition to Photo Shop I also use Photomatrix Pro 4. With my previous laptop (which two years ago I paid more for it than I just did for this one) it seems to take forever to merge files. With this computer I am amazed at how quickly it converts the multiple files into one image. The same goes with my video editing software, which I expected. The Sony VARIO F2 comes with several proprietary programs, including Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 10.0, which seems like a decent program for home use. The screen is bright and very sharp and big enough for my needs I was hoping for a larger hard drive since I have seen cheaper computers with a full 1-TB drive. Still, I am very happy with the specs of this computer, especially for the price. This Sony might even be more powerful than I need for my applications, which is good, I might be able to hang onto this one for more than a couple of years.

5Excellent PC
By Kentucky Academic
Flawless machine. Understand the negatives if you read the specs: (1) weight (2)battery life (3) bloatware (but that is ubiquitous and SONY is no worse than most--and you can get a clean start if you order from SONY).What is excellent is the video quality: both streaming and BlueRay. I love the touch of the chicklet keyboard and the fact that it is backlit. (I write several hours a day). Heat is no issue and fan noise is remarkably quiet--especially compared to my ASUS G50V that it replaces. I do large database runs and I'm amazed at the I-7 processor. Not a heavy gamer, but based upon my database and video quality experience I would expect excellent performance. When SONY gets something right, I think they have excellent products.

5do not be afraid to buy it.

Best Laptop for Windows 7HP. The Hard Drive bay is a + and easy for changing the rotary HDD with SSD. The RAM can hold up to 16 GB 1600mhz what is GOOD +. 1GB VRAM is a good help in multitasking and graphics. Best on market ever for it's generation.
