Very, very sweet laptop. Definitely check this out!
By cSharpGuru
I'm not going to go into details about what others have said about this magnificent machine; yes, it is fast, beautiful, and a very good value-- best laptop I have ever owned, even accounting for relative performance.Instead, I'm going to give some constructive advice for those that do decide to purchase it. In the event that you aren't too technically savvy, you should know that most computers that are purchased from vendors come preloaded with crapware and the first thing you should do is reformat the hard drive and reinstall the OS by using a retail copy. In all my years working with computers (I'm a seasoned developer), I have never seen a system be so affected by the crapware that comes with the initial load of the OS.The first thing I noticed was that the movement of windows/objects across the screen wasn't very smooth for a screen capable of 120Hz (I have the Samsung 2233RZ 120Hz for my desktop PC and was using that as a basis for comparison). I initially thought, well maybe I was foolish for thinking that a 120Hz laptop screen would be as good as my Samsung monitor. And yes, I ensured that the video settings were set to 120Hz in the nVidia Control Panel. So then I'd thought I would fire up the chess game that comes with Windows as a quick means of seeing DirectX performance. I was surprised when I noticed this brand new, powerful gaming laptop couldn't even play Chess Titans flawlessly (the framerate wasn't as high as it should have been).I also noticed a general slowness overall, with delays occurring just navigating the Control Panel. So rather than do what I normally do and reload the OS, I was curious to see if I could isolate the process that was slowing down the machine. I ended up terminating every process I could, suspecting real-time virus protection as the cause, but leaving no stone unturned nevertheless. After doing so, however, the system was still underperforming.I was becoming a *little* concerned, but was hoping that it was simply a matter of having sub-optimal drivers installed or configuration of the OS. I went ahead and formatted the drive, installed Windows 7 x64, and then installed the latest drivers (as found on the ASUS website, with the exception of the video drivers, which should be downloaded from nVidia). In case there is someone reading this that is using my experience as guidance, you should install the drivers in this order: chipset (Intel INF), other processor utilities (just look for Intel in the name), video (go to nvidia.com, search for 460M), audio, LAN/WLAN, then whatever order you like (what is most important is that you do chipset first, then video second-- the rest doesn't really matter). And the results? WOW. The screen on this laptop performs just about as well as my Samsung desktop monitor-- pure, smooth, luscious 120Hz goodness! Of course one of the first things I had to do is start up Chess Titans and yes, it played flawlessly. But that's just a simple chess game. How about Crysis 2? Well, for a laptop of this cost, I was very impressed. As others have already said, this machine performs. But again, I just wanted to share my initial experience so that others can be informed as to the necessity of reinstalling the OS. I even noticed that the after installing the video drivers everything appeared smaller (than it did when I first powered on the laptop), which means I was looking at a higher resolution desktop, which of course means that it wasn't originally set to the optimal resolution by ASUS! I didn't realize that fact when I first powered it on; I guess I assumed they would at least do that much right. They build good motherboards and laptops, but the team they have in charge of building the OS image that comes preloaded needs some training.

AWSOME
By Voodooboyfair
I have had this computer for about a week. I am verrrrrryyyyy happy with it. The build, quality, construction is the best I have seen in a laptop. The keyboard works great and the keys are spaced nicely for typing. All that student stuff aside, this thing rocks! The games are all set at ultra settings and the 3D looks amazing. When the glasses are on the screen is bright so you don't have any issues at all with the darker lenses of the Nvidia 3D glasses. Also all you World of Warcraft players out there, you wont believe how things change when you play in 3D. It blew me away to see all the flat graphics in WOW come to life in 3D. The only issue I see is the water surface does not disply in 3D so it gives you double vision (left eye of under water and right eye the surface of the water) when fishing, it's easier to just turn off the stero effect. Other than that, it is beautiful in 3D. I recommend this lap top to everyone out there. It is the best of the best. It is very quite and I really appreciate how they designed the air vents to blow any hot air out the back of the computer. Excellent design. No heat issues at all with this computer, runs very cool. The back pack it comes with is very nice. It comes with a mouse,(not cordless) but it is a good gaming mouse and you won't have to worry about batteries for it when using it. I would like to mention that the screen is very nice also. The images come across sharp and clear and the colors are very well displayed. I don't think you can go wrong with purchasing an Asus product. I have owned HP,(sent it back 4 times for repair)Gateway(sent it back for repair, after the warrenty ran out the mother board short out)Toshiba(lasted about 4 yrs and the video card gave out). I went with Asus this time becasue I bought my wife one and she has had zero problems for the last five years. It is still going strong. Asus builds a very nice product. I give this five stars because it deserves it. Great job Asus Thanks.

Very nice gaming laptop
By Goose
So far after a few days with this computer I can say it's a great gaming laptop. I was able to run Crysis on high as well as Rift. They both looked amazing. I haven't tried the 3D glasses with actual gaming but based on the demo and screens they show of other games it is very nice and clear 3D. I need to go through the manual some more because I still haven't been able to figure out how to watch 3D blurays with the software. One problem I had was the light up keyboard and volume adjustment via the Fn key. All other Fn functions worked properly. After a bit of research it seems others had the problem as well. It's easily fixed by reinstalling the ATK pack. The keyboard feels great! I love having the number pad as well. The PC is nice and quick. There is as expected a couple of crap programs preinstalled but not many. The gaming mouse is very nice and a welcome bonus as well as the backpack.
